Community Medicine is a core discipline that focuses on the health of populations rather than individuals, with an overarching goal of promoting, protecting, and improving community health. The Department of Community Medicine at KMCH Institute of Health Sciences and Research addresses health and disease through a holistic understanding of social, cultural, environmental, and economic determinants.
The department delivers preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative services, with strong emphasis on Primary Health Care and Universal Health Coverage. Training in epidemiology, biostatistics, research methodology, maternal and child health, nutrition, occupational and environmental health, mental health, disaster management, and non-communicable diseases forms the backbone of undergraduate education.
Through community-linked, technology-enabled learning modules, the department nurtures socially responsive, scientifically trained primary care physicians capable of managing common health problems with competence and compassion.
The Department functions with a vision to develop socially accountable, ethically grounded, and scientifically competent primary care physicians through excellence in teaching, community service, and public health research.
