Forensic Medicine and Toxicology

The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology functions with the objective of enabling undergraduate students to acquire knowledge and skills required to identify, manage, and document common medico-legal problems encountered in day-to-day medical practice. The department emphasizes understanding of a physician’s legal responsibilities, adherence to the code of conduct, and practice of medical ethics.

Students are trained to diagnose and manage common cases of poisoning in the community, prepare medico-legal reports in various medico-legal situations, and actively participate in medico-legal post-mortem procedures. Teaching focuses on interpretation of findings based on history, physical examination, and autopsy observations, while fostering professionalism in interactions with police and legal authorities.
